Rosé wines that won’t embarrass you… Rosé wine, without doubt, is a quintessentially summer drink. But for eleven months of the year, the British love affair with this neglected style goes dormant, with the market dominated by the white and red heavyweights. Perhaps its impression as a boozy pub wine means it is overlooked by many serious drinkers. But do not forget that Côtes de Provence, where four-fifths of production is of pale pink dry rosé, is one of the oldest wine regions of the world and by far the largest AOC in France. Still not convinced? Well it is rumoured that across La Manche, sales of rosé has overtaken white wine. Now that’s surely something to make buffs sit up and listen.
